Normally, we spend our Christmases in Sweden, with my parents and my sister and her family. The Christmas of 2018, we had to change plans abruptly and completely, as I was diagnosed and got my treatment plan on December 22nd. The worst Christmas present ever... Due to my lung problems, I needed care during the holidays and was not allowed to fly. Therefore, we had to celebrate Christmas in Zürich, only the four of us. ![]() Already at the end of January, right after I had come home from hospital, my dad talked to me about booking a family vacation in Gran Canaria over the New Year's, with the hole clan, i.e. my family, my sister's family and my parents. I admit, at that time I was not thrilled, as I was still in pain from the surgery, and knew I was about to start the tough chemotherapy only a few weeks later. All in all, I just felt like crawling and hiding under a thick, fluffy duvet, never to come out again. Today, after having spent a lovely family vacation in Gran Canaria, I am grateful for my dad's consideration and persistence. He knew, that not only I, but the whole family needed to have something pleasant and rewarding to look forward to. In hindsight, I am absolutely sure this was one of the things that helped me through this past, dreadful year. I am happy to have welcomed 2019 big time, together with the whole Wäppling family. Action 19 is completed!
